Disturbing Recording Reveals Instant Police Are Stabbed in Unexpected Assault
One police sergeant that leaped to the help of a partner who was ambushed by a knife attacker has been awarded the Royal Recognition for Bravery.
Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown following he held a knife to the throat of his colleague Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown launched his attack as the policemen and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver after a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in July 2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed both Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a Taser.
"Officer knifed," PC Wolstencroft stated over his radio.
Officer-mounted and dashcam footage released by the police department revealed Brown, that was clothed in black with a hood up, rush to Sergeant Foster from behind with a blade pointed forward.
He ran into the policeman who stumbled and fell to the street, after which Sergeant Ansell stepped in and attempted to subdue him to the floor although being continually attacked with the knife.
Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and sought a safe opportunity, bringing the struggle to an finish.
Sergeant Ansell stated audibly: "Can I get something on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sgt Ansell sustained two lacerations to his neck and more cuts to his limbs and torso, while Sergeant Foster suffered slash wounds.
Officials stated Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to stem his fellow officer's hemorrhaging prior to medical personnel arrived.
The latest honor arrives after the law enforcement team received departmental Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the police federation award from the regional Police Federation in spring 2024.
They were also awarded a Regional Courage Honor in July 2024.
"The actions of the entire team in the end protected each other and resulted in no members of the public suffered any harm."
Brown was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in early 2024, as stated by the department.
